SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KTVU) - A corrections officer from Santa Cruz County is accused of having sexual contact with an incarcerated person.
Law enforcement officers say rumors persisted in 2017 of a corrections officer having sexual relations with an inmate. However, those rumors didn’t reach the sheriff until December, which they say is a problem.
The sexual assault allegedly occurred at the main jail on July, 15 2017.
The sheriff opened up a criminal and internal affairs investigation. Corrections officer Del Real was fired and arrested for having sexual activity with a confined adult, sexual penetration, and assault under the color of authority. He bailed out on $50,000.
The sheriff says the investigation only uncovered one incident and that there does not appear to be any more victims.
