Santa Teresa H.S. teacher arrested for sexual assault of student
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU) - A Santa Teresa High School teacher has been arrested on felony sexual assault charges on a minor, school officials said on Thursday.
San Jose Police Department informed East Side Union High School District that 32-year-old teacher Trudy Hill was arrested for the assault on a 17-year-old student. She was allegedly involved in an inappropriate relationship with the student.
The District Superintendent says a student contacted them on Facebook regarding the relationship and they called the police.
The district said in a news release that they were cooperating with the investigation.
In a letter dated December 8, Superintendent Chris Funk wrote:
"We are shocked and deeply disturbed by these allegations. We want to assure the community that the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. The teacher involved has been placed on leave pending further developments in this criminal investigation. The District is also taking measures to provide assistance to the student and family that has been directly affected."
The statement continued that the district is conducting its own separate investigation into the matter to ensure this type of misconduct is prevented in the future. That will include training and resources to staff.
The district has asked if anyone has any information pertinent to this case to contact Detective Brian Spears of the San Jose Police Department at (408) 537-1397.
