Self-driving Google car involved in Mountain View crash
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (KTVU) - A self-driving Google car was involved in an accident in Mountain View on Friday.
The Google-owned Lexus suffered a crumpled passenger-side door when it was hit by a van on El Camino Real and Calderon Avenue at about 1:30 p.m.
One person was in the Google car, but we’re told they were not hurt.
A statement from Google said the car was broadsided when the van ran a red light.
Google has set up a website where it posts monthly reports on accidents with self-driving cars.
There have been at least six crashes in the Bay Area since January involving Google cars on “auto-pilot”.
Mountain View police say they will be investigating the crash.
