SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) -- A female construction worker has died after she was fatally stabbed during a dispute at a construction site in San Francisco, authorities said.

The incident occurred after 9 a.m. at a construction site near Fifth and Shipley streets, an alley between Folsom and Harrison, authorities said. The woman, whose identity was pending, died after she was rushed for medical treatment to a local hospital for treatment, authorities said.

Two people, a man and a woman, were taken into custody in connection with the attack. Their identities and the nature of charges were not immediately available.

Authorities said the victim was in a dispute with the two suspects. After the argument, she escorted the two suspects away from the construction site. That's when one of them pulled out a sharp instrument and stabbed the woman.

When she didn't return to the scene right away, two of the construction worker's co-workers went to check on her and found her stabbed, according to SFPD Officer Grace Gatpandan.

The construction workers at the scene chased the suspects. They followed them to Fifth and Folsom streets where police arrived and arrested them, Gatpandan said.

It was not clear what prompted the dispute and if the victim knew the suspects.

Police have not released the names of the two suspects.
