The San Francisco District Attorneys' Office on Wednesday charged a San Lorenzo man with receiving stolen property after he was arrested earlier in the month for allegedly fencing several thousands of dollars worth of bicycles and parts.

Joseph Zachary Negapatan, 25, was arraigned Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to the charge, according to the SFDA. He is next scheduled to appear in court for a prehearing conference on Feb. 19.

The backstory:

The San Francisco Police Department responded on Jan. 2 to reports of a residential burglary at a home in the 2700 block of Anza Street, the department said in a statement.

Officers discovered at the scene that a suspect had entered the home and stolen several bikes that combined were worth roughly $28,000, though they were unable to apprehend the thief.

Eleven days later, the victim told SFPD investigators that their bikes were being sold online, and were able to use the information to identify Negapatan as a possible suspect.

Police obtained a search warrant for Negapatan's San Lorenzo home, where authorities found the victim's stolen bicycles in addition to several other bikes, frames and miscellaneous parts that were suspected to have been stolen on other occasions.

Negapatan was subsequently arrested and booked into the San Francisco County Jail for possession of stolen property. He was later released from jail on his own recognizance.
