SFJAZZ Gala Tribute to Joni Mitchell

While heath issues are keeping Mitchell from attending the SFJAZZ gala as originally scheduled, a stellar line-up of performers will still be on hand to offer up unique renditions of her classic songs. Drummer Brian Blade (who played on Mitchell's last three albums) and pianist Jon Cowherd co-lead a band that will feature guest performances from such diverse artists as outlaw country songwriter Kris Kristofferson, new-wave rocker Joe Jackson, jazz vocalists Patti Austin and Kurt Elling, rising soul singer Judith Hill, the aforementioned Tom Scott and more. The SFJAZZ Collective will also debut new arrangements of Joni Mitchell compositions. Patrons will also be treated to late-night supper with menu by chef Michael Tusk before an "afterjam" concert by famed New Orleans party starter Trombone Shorty and his band Orleans Avenue.
