The vehicle was responding to a call at the Ambassador Hotel at 55 Mason Street about 8 a.m., when it was taken.

Police chased the ambulance onto the Bay Bridge.

The pursuit ended at an off-ramp to Treasure Island.

The driver lost control of the ambulance, which went up a cement guardrail and caught fire.

A female suspect was taken into custody.

The victim in the initial emergency call was being treated by a team of paramedics.

They called for another ambulance, when the other one was stolen.

San Francisco Police and the Fire Departments took pictures of the crash, and sent them to the news media, and posted them on social media.

The ambulance is a total loss, but there were no injuries.

The California Highway Patrol is assisting local authorities with the investigation. The incident has caused a major traffic jam on the Bay Bridge.

The CHP has shut down the eastbound lanes of the Treasure Island off-ramp, and have not provided any indications on when the lanes will reopen.
