Shelter animals to get 'Trumped' for Republican debate

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) - As candidates at the 2016 Republican presidential debate get ready to take center stage tonight, adoptable animals will be the "mane" attraction at San Francisco Animal Care and Control shelter.

In honor of the debate, the city's animal shelter announced today it has begun "Trumping" adoptable animals in their care and is sharing the pictures on social media.

"Every time we post a picture of an animal of social media, our ultimate goal is to find the animal a new home. This is a way of having some fun with it," Animal Care and Control spokeswoman Deb Campbell said.

The idea was inspired by the Instagram account @trumpyourcat, according to Campbell.

The Instagram account has posted dozens of pictures of cats and other animals wearing what appears to be a toupee on their heads in a tribute to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The account first began posting the pictures over a month ago.

According to the account, users can contribute photos of their cats being "Trumped" by brushing their cat's hair, forming the hair from the brush into a toupee, placing it on the cat's head and then sharing on social media, using the hashtag .trumpyourcat.

San Francisco Animal Care and Control has a wide range of animals that will be "Trumped," including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and a chicken, according to organization officials.

All of the animals that will be "Trumped" are available for adoption, Campbell said.

Owners can rest assured, however, that the sheltered animals claim no official political party affiliation, Campbell said.

To see pictures of the "Trumped" animals, animal-lovers can visit the Animal Care and Control's Facebook page.
