Sheriff's deputy delivers baby in front seat of car at carwash

SANTA CLARITA VALLEY, Calif. - A newborn baby girl came into the world in a hurry in the front seat of a car at a Santa Clarita Valley car wash parking lot on Wednesday morning.
A motorist urgently shouted “Baby! Baby!” at Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Roger Bertola as he followed the car into a Canyon Country parking lot on Soledad Canyon Road.
The baby was still encased in its amniotic sac when she began to crown.
Because this was an “en-caul” birth, the mother’s water did not break, so there was less warning for the parents.
The Sheriff's Department says the father was so excited when the baby was born, that he began jumping up and down.
Shortly after the arrival of the baby, the firefighters and an ambulance arrived at the scene.
The ecstatic new mom and baby were transported to a local hospital, where they are both reportedly to be in good health.
Deputy Bertola has three children of his own, but said this was the first time he has delivered a baby.
