Sheriff's office: Caltrain fatality appears to have been intentional, under investigation
SAN MATEO, Calif. (KTVU) - San Mateo County Sheriff's Office says an adult male fatally struck by a Caltrain at Hillside Station on Wednesday afternoon, appears to have been an intentional act.
The sheriff's office Transit Police Bureau, which patrols the Caltrain corridor is investigating the incident, but the final cause of death and identification of the victim is still pending.
Trains were stopped in both directions at the station while police investigatd the fatality that happened at approximately 4:22 p.m., according to officials.
Northbound train service reopened at 5:31 p.m., while the southbound track was cleared for maximum authorized speeds at 8:39 p.m. The incident occurred on the southbound track.
There were approximately 300 passengers on the train and no one else was injured, officials said.
This is the fourth Caltrain fatality of 2019, the agency said.
