It was a Thanksgiving miracle when a 70-year-old Cupertino man went missing last Wednesday and was miraculously found alive in his car at the bottom of a wooded embankment following a wreck.

His family reported that he failed to come home last Wednesday night. The San Mateo County Sheriff's office has shared the thank you note from the man's family on social media where they express their gratitude from rescuers who they call "guardian angels."

On Thanksgiving morning, sheriffs patrol deputies and investigators searched the area of Woodside Road and Skyline Boulevard. According to officials the hours-long search paid off, when they spotted a damaged tree with freshly exposed bark at its base. From there, they discovered the man's car upside down.

On their Facebook page, the sheriff's office said they climbed down a 30-plus foot drop where the unnamed man was discovered in the car alive.

He was transported to the hospital.

The sheriff's office extended their well wishes for the man's continued recovery.
