Shop vac used to rescue kitten in drain pipe

Two kittens were rescued from an underground pipe Tuesday.

People walking by the pipe heard their cries and called for help. Contra Costa Animal Services responded to the scene where they determined they could not reach the kittens. The Pinole Fire Department was called in to help.

One of the kittens was rescued with the help of a "snare pole," while the second wouldn't budge. That's when the group decided to use a shop vac to suck the kitten up and out of the drain.

The kittens were taken to the Martinez Animal Shelter. They are both doing well and are expected to go up for adoption.
