"Shots fired": CHP responds to report on I-880 in Hayward
HAYWARD, Calif. (KTVU) - The California Highway Patrol received a call of "shots fired" on the highway in Hayward late Tuesday, just a day after a man was shot in the head during another highway shooting in nearby San Leandro.
CHP Officer John Fransen told KTVU that the report came in on Interstate Highway 880 north of Jackson Street about 10 p.m. Officers went there and didn't find anything. But about 40 minutes later, two juveniles showed up at the Hayward Police Department, according to the CHP. They weren't hurt and police have not revealed what they said.
The portion of northbound 880 was shut down between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m.
On Monday, a man riding in a car with three passengers was taken to the hospital in critical condition after "multiple occupants" in a white suspect car fired shots at him, striking him in the head, the CHP said. No arrests have been announced in that case.
