Sinkhole forces South San Francisco family out of home

A sinkhole in South San Francisco has forced a family out of their home. The home on Edgewood Way near Mission Road has been red-tagged. The family blames construction workers for hitting a retaining wall with a backhoe and damaging their foundation.

The family doesn’t know when they’ll be able to re-enter the home. Owner Adam Ornellas said his patio gave way Thanksgiving morning.

“We basically didn’t have the chance to have Thanksgiving dinner and we won’t have Christmas at our house that we’ve had for almost 38 years,” Ornellas said. He added that the construction company plans on going to City Hall on Monday to get approval on a temporary fix until they can come up with a permanent one.

He’s also worried about the coming rains in what is expected to be an El Niño winter, saying that would only weaken the foundation more and could potentially lead to the house to collapse.
