Spirited 8-year-old Benicia girl raises money for special needs students

The spirit of giving comes naturally for 8-year-old Kaylee Ingle from Benicia. Kaylee’s mother recently sent KTVU a video of her daughter receiving an award at a school assembly at Mary Farmar Elementary School.

The school wanted to show the young girl they are appreciative of her efforts to bring awareness to students with special needs. Kaylee decided on her own to help raise money for Tammy Harley, the school’s special education teacher.

“My mom and dad always say to me, ‘It only takes one person to make a difference. So let that person be you,’” she said at the assembly.

The collection started out small, but then the Kaylee started asking some local businesses and firefighters for their donations.

The Solano-Napa Firefighters Foundation helped match the funds Kaylee raised. In the end, she donated more than $1,500 to Mrs. Harley’s class. The teacher plans on spending the money on toys for her students and a class field trip.
