St. Anthony's serves its 42 millionth meal
SAN FRANCISCO - St. Anthony Foundation served its 42 millionth meal to the needy on Monday.
St. Anthony's first opened its dining room in San Francisco in 1950.
The meals served feed individuals and families who have slipped through the safety net: veterans, seniors, the working poor, homeless and low-income residents, recent immigrants, recent parolees, and the mentally and addictively ill.
A fundamental component of the Dining Room meal service is to welcome each guest with dignity and respect.
75% of the food served is donated or provided for free by community partners.
Today, St. Anthony's offers food, clothing, health care, addiction recovery, social work and technology training services.
