Police are investigating a reported rape at a Stanford University student residential building on Friday, according to the school's Department of Public Safety.

Campus security was told the rape happened at a student housing facility on the east side of campus sometime early Friday morning, and that the victim did not know the attacker, according to public safety officials.

Investigators have not released further details about the case.

"Stanford University does not tolerate sexual assault, sexual misconduct or sexual harassment," public safety officials said in a community alert on the incident. “The university encourages anyone who has been sexually assaulted or subjected to other forms of sexual misconduct or harassment to report the incident to university officials.”
