Starting next year, you'll need a gold star on your license to fly

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says that beginning on October 1st, 2020, every air traveler who is 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of ID to fly within the United States.
REAL ID-compliant cards are usually marked with a star located in the upper portion of the card, TSA says. If you are not sure if you have a REAL ID-compliant card, you can contact your state driver’s license agency on how to obtain one.
TSA will continue to accept other forms of identity documents, such as a passport or U.S. military ID. Other acceptable forms of identification are listed on the TSA website.
Those under the age of 18 do not need to provide identification when traveling with a companion within the United States, TSA says.
The REAL ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005. It enacted that the federal government “set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver's licenses.” The Act and its regulations establish minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards. It also prohibits federal agencies, like the TSA, from accepting licenses and identification cards that do not meet these standards.
