Sting captures alleged thieves who stole world champion's bike

MORGAN HILL (KTVU) – Two alleged thieves who stole the bike that propelled pro rider Michal Kwiatkowski to the world road cycling championship from the lobby of the headquarters of Specialized Bikes have been captured during a sting operation, Morgan Hill police said Thursday.

Kannadi Ridenour and Ryan Balestrini face a host of charges after they allegedly broke into the lobby over the weekend and made away with Kwaitkowski's bike and one owned by company founder Michael Sinyard.

Investigators said the pair had no idea that the bikes were worth more than $20,000 apiece when they tried to sell them for $1,000 each.

Morgan Hill police said they were tipped to the effort to sell the bikes and set up a sting operation.

Investigators contacted Ridenour and met her at a local strip mall on Wednesday. She led to a local resident where they found Balestrini and the bikes.

The pair was then taken into custody.

Investigators said they believed a third person may be involved and the search for that individual was under way.
