OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - On Sunday night, Oakland Police Department confirmed a subject was fatally shot by officers near 90th and Bancroft Ave. According to police, a group of uniformed officers were engaged in towing vehicles related to sideshow activity.
There were unconfirmed reports of several motorcyclists doing stunts on the Interstate 580 East Seminary on-ramp earlier in the evening. According to their preliminary investigation, police said the uniformed officers were approached by a subject who pointed a firearm in their direction. Several officers then discharged their weapons, killing the subject. OPD Chief Sean Whent later confirmed the assumed firearm was a replica and that the subject did not appear to be connected with the sideshow.
Officers were said to have performed CPR on the subject until medical personnel eventually arrived.
No officers were injured. Alameda County District Attorney's Office is involved in their own independent investigation of the incident according to OPD.
