Suspect cuts Alameda high school student with knife, police say

Some Alameda schools were sheltering in place Friday morning because an Island High School student was attacked by a suspect with a knife, according to the Alameda Unified School District and police.

Police said that at about 8:45 a.m. a man in his 20s, wearing a blue shirt and blue sweatpants, approached the student with a knife in the bathroom. They fought, police said, and the student was cut and suffered a minor injury.

It's unclear who the suspect is and his relationship, if any, to the student and the school.

About an hour later, the district said that police had given the West End campuses an all clear and lifted the shelter in places. Schools returned to their regular schedules, the district tweeted.
