Suspect entered home, attempted to sexually assault victim in El Cerrito

Police in El Cerrito on Friday arrested a suspect in connection with a home invasion that occurred Thursday night.

On Thursday at 8:46 p.m., officers with the El Cerrito Police Department responded to a report of a burglary in progress at an apartment complex in the north end of he city.

Police said a man climbed into an apartment through an open window, woke up the resident, pulled a knife and attempted to sexually assault the victim.

The man also demanded the victim hand over valuables, police said.

During the incident, the victim's roommate came home, knocked on the door and startled the suspect.

The suspect then fled the apartment through a back door.

Police searched the area Thursday night but were unable to locate the suspect.

On Friday, investigators identified the suspect as Jermine K. Allen, of San Pablo.

Allen was located and arrested in connection with the case, police said.
