Suspect in custody after 'brutal' Castro Valley double homicide

A man and a woman were killed and a relative taken into custody after what was described as a "brutal murder" at a mobile home park in Castro Valley Monday, Alameda County sheriff's deputies said.

Neighbors at Chetwood Crest Mobile Park at 3913 Castro Valley Blvd. say the two victims were not married, but have been together for years.

“I really haven't had time to process it. She was a really good person she was awesome, she was very good hearted,” said the couples friend Debby Peppy.

Investigators say Monday morning they got a call from some unknown person to check on the couple. The person said one of the two were expected and didn’t show up.

Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the scene at around 11:30 a.m. and found the victims' bodies in a trailer there.

“When deputies got here, they found a man and a woman that had been murdered in one of the trailer homes here. There was a third person that was also in the house and that person was taken to our substation for questioning,” said Sgt. J.D. Nelson of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies would only say the man in custody is in his mid-30s, however friends and neighbors who know him told KTVU he is the female victim's son.

“I don't know if he's the one that did it but he's been having mental problems. He's autistic and he hasn't been taken his medicine. I know he's been in an out and he even committed himself trying to get help,” said Peppy.

Sheriff's Sgt. Ray Kelly could not disclose how the victims were murdered but he described it as a brutal scene.
