Suspect pistol-whips nanny, carjacks Porsche from home in Orinda
NANNY PISTOL WHIPPED
CONCORD, Calif. (BCN) - A nanny was pistol-whipped on Tuesday afternoon by a robbery suspect who stole a Porsche from an Orinda home, according to the city's police chief.
Orinda police Chief Mark Nagel said a call came in around 2:45p.m. regarding the incident, which occurred at a home on El Castillo Court near El Nido Ranch Road.
It reportedly began with a 53-year-old nanny being approached about 30 minutes earlier by a male suspect while she was raking leaves outside the home.
Nagel said the man tried to start up a conversation with the nanny, who was waiting for the homeowner's 5-year-old daughter to return from school, but the nanny only speaks Cantonese.
After the girl later returned from school and went inside with the nanny, the same man kicked open the home's front door and broke it off its frame, Nagel said.
The man took out a firearm and demanded money and valuables. He did a room-by-room sweep with the nanny, Nagel said.
The daughter was apparently a witness to the incident.
At some point, the suspect hit the nanny in the back of the head with the firearm.
She suffered a laceration and was taken to the hospital, Nagel said.
The suspect then demanded the keys to a 2012 Porsche Cayenne parked in the home's garage and drove off with two iPads and $100, according to Nagel.
The chief said police are reviewing outside surveillance footage that may have captured the suspect and are gathering his potential fingerprints from around the home.
There was no description provided of the man. Police are seeking a black 2012 Porsche Cayenne with the license plate of 6VMK320.
