Teen on bike collides with car in Oakland, injured

Police in Oakland say a 16-year-old boy was hit by a car at West Grand Avenue and Adeline just after 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

A witness said the boy was not wearing a helmet and that a paramedic who happened to be in the area worked on him until an ambulance arrived. The teen was taken to a local hospital and is said to have a major injury.

There are conflicting witness reports on whether or not the young male driver of a black Honda or the teen cyclist is at fault. Others said the driver of the car was speeding.

Some said the teen was "flying" through the intersection. Upon impact, the teen was said to have flown 15-feet into the air.

There appear to be traffic cameras at the light at the intersection that may help in the police investigation.
