Three more officers charged in Bay Area police sex scandal
HAYWARD, Calif. - A former sheriff's deputy and two police officers have been charged in connection with their alleged involvement in a wide-ranging police sex scandal involving the daughter of a police dispatcher.
The charges were filed Monday at the Hayward Hall of Justice.
The Alameda County District Attorney has charged former Contra Costa Sheriff's deputy Ricardo Perez for allegedly having sexual intercourse at an unknown location near Fish Ranch Road in the Oakland Hills about 10 times with a 17-year-old minor.
Oakland Police officer Brian Bunton has been charged with conspiracy and obstruction of justice for allegedly warning the juvenile of an undercover Oakland Police operation targeting prostitutes.
Bunton was also charged with a misdemeanor for engaging in an act of prostitution.
Oakland police officer Giovanni LoVerde has been charged with a felony for engaging in a sex act with a minor in a public area near Lake Merritt.
Last week, prosecutors charged a former Livermore police officer and a retired Oakland police sergeant with misdemeanors in connection with the sex exploitation scandal.
District Attorney Nancy O'Malley said last week that she would not file the charges until she was certain the woman at the center of the scandal would be available to testify.
She was arrested Aug. 29 after she bit a security guard at an in-patient addiction treatment facility where she was living. She was released from jail on Wednesday after pleading no contest to misdemeanor battery.
She said she worked as a prostitute and had sex with 30 officers from seven different police agencies.
The sexual encounters with four of them happened when she was under age 18, she said.
The woman's lawyer, Pamela Price, said she is no longer a sex worker and will receive psychiatric treatment at Stanford University.
Price filed a legal claim with the city of Oakland Friday seeking $66 million in damages for the woman. A claim is a precursor to a lawsuit.
