TIMELINE: A look back at dangerous deck collapses

Six people died and seven others were seriously injured when a fourth-floor balcony crammed with revelers collapsed Tuesday in Berkeley, California. At least five of the dead people were Irish students in the U.S. on temporary work visas.

Police, fire and building officials were working to determine what caused the balcony to break loose from the side of the apartment building.
