Toyota issued a recall for 48,420 Tacoma trucks over a shock absorber part that could detach while driving, posing a road hazard.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officials explained in a recall notice that the affected trucks are equipped with front and rear shock absorbers that have an external oil reservoir attached to the shock absorber.

The federal agency noted that untreated metal surfaces between the shock absorbers can corrode over time and this buildup.

In some instances, the oil reservoir might detach from the shock absorber. If the reservoir detaches while driving, it may increase the risk of a crash.
