Train fatally strikes pedestrian near Fruitdale Station

SAN JOSE, Calif. (BCN) - A Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light rail train fatally struck a pedestrian just south of the Fruitdale Station in San Jose Tuesday afternoon, according to an agency spokeswoman.
The northbound train on the Mountain View-Winchester Line struck a pedestrian just after 4:30 p.m., according to VTA spokeswoman Brandi Childress.
San Jose firefighters tried to provide medical care and remove the pedestrian, but the person died.
Train service is stopped in both directions in the area and the VTA is providing a bus bridge between Fruitdale and Bascom stations.
