Truck driver charged with vehicular manslaughter in SF accident
SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU and wires) -- A truck driver who was cited for misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter and for failing to yield to a pedestrian after he fatally struck a woman in a crosswalk in San Francisco's Richmond District on Monday afternoon has been identified, a police spokesman said.
San Francisco resident Bing Zuo Wu, 61, was cited in connection with the death of 61-year-old San Francisco resident Rose Kelly, San Francisco police spokesman Officer Albie Esparaza said.
Kelly was struck in a crosswalk at 1:21 p.m. Monday at 33rd Avenue and Cabrillo Street. She was in the crosswalk with the right of way when the
truck struck her, Esparza said.
Wu was driving a GMC truck north on 33rd Avenue when he hit Kelly, who was walking east in the crosswalk on Cabrillo Street, according to
police.
Wu stopped and remained at the scene, police said.
Kelly was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
According to San Francisco District Attorney's Office spokesman Max Szabo, Wu has not been formally charged and since he only received a citation, he will likely be ordered to appear in court within four to six weeks.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation, police said.
