Two people and dog die in San Jose crash, 2 others injured

Two people and one dog died early Friday morning in a solo vehicle accident in San Jose, police said, which also injured another two people.

Alcohol and marijuana are suspected, police said, in the city's13th fatal collision of 2018. The deaths mark the 13th and 14th victims of fatal accidents so far this year.

The fatal crash was reported at 1:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Casselino Drive, Officer Gina Tepoorten said in a news release.  A Honda Accord was traveling eastbound when the driver lost control and struck a tree before stopping, she said.  The adult male driver along with a female passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene.  Another adult male passenger was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  An additional female passenger was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.  Two dogs were in the Honda, and one of them died.

Witness Eun Young said she heard a loud noise and that "smoke was covering the whole street."
