BERKELEY (BCN) A University of California at Berkeley student died in a head-on collision last month in Arizona, university and Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said today.

Justin Yeo Jun Xi, 22, of Singapore died along with three others Dec. 22 on northbound state Highway 64. Yeo was in a silver Hyundai when it collided head-on with a green Dodge van.

Yeo was signed up to take courses at UC Berkeley this spring, university spokeswoman Ellen Topp said.

Topp said he was a mechanical engineering student pursuing a bachelor's degree. He attended the university from August 2016 to December 2017.

The Hyundai crossed the centerline of Highway 64 and struck the van, which was traveling south, Bart Graves, Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman, said.

The van went off the road and into a ravine, according to Graves. The driver of the van, Victor Colldeforms Pren, 43, of Spain died.

Graves said three other people besides Yeo were in the Hyundai and two died. Graves identified the two as Heng Soon Yeo, 62, and Chua Cher Hwee, 56, both of Singapore.

The Hyundai struck an additional vehicle, however, everyone in that vehicle escaped injury.
