Unemployment below 3 percent in all but 1 Bay Area counties in April

Unemployment rates were below 3 percent in all but one of the nine San Francisco Bay Area counties in April, according to the California Employment Development Department.

San Mateo County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2 percent followed by San Francisco and Marin counties at 2.1 percent.

Solano County had the highest rate in the area at 3.6 percent, employment officials said.

Statewide the unemployment rate was 4.2 percent, the lowest ever. Nationally, the unemployment rate was 3.9 percent.
