Union City cops seek robbery suspects

These two men robbed a couple outside a Union City WalMart, police say.

Here's KTVU crime reporter Henry Lee's Rap Sheet blog for May 19, 2016:

UNION CITY ROBBERY SUSPECTS WANTED: Union City police are asking for the public's help in identifying two men who robbed an elderly couple outside a WalMart store.

The incident happened about the store at 30600 Dyer St. about 3:30 p.m. May 11.

The victims were loading their purchases into their car when they were approached by four young men who police believe had been waiting for them to return to their vehicle.

One of the assailants approached the male victim and demanded his wallet. But the victim didn't speak English, and the suspect punched him several times in the face and stole his wallet.

A second robber demanded the woman's purse, which she handed over.

The four then fled on foot. Two of the men were then captured on surveillance video using the woman's credit cards at the Sheikh Shoes store at the Southland Mall in Hayward.

Anyone who can identify the men is asked to contact Union City police Officer Paul at RPaul@unioncity.org.

FATALITY IN FREMONT FUMIGATION: A man died after he went into a Fremont apartment complex undergoing pest fumigation and apparently tried to commit a burglary, police said today.

The man entered a section of the complex on the 39800 block of Fremont Boulevard about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, ignoring "Do Not Enter" signs and the fact that the building was covered in a tent for pest fumigation, authorities said.

Witnesses saw him lying on the ground and having problems breathing. Fremont police and firefighters arrived. He was taken away in an ambulance, where his condition worsened. He died at a local hospital.

The Alameda County coroner's office withheld his name today, saying his family had not yet been notified.

Police determined that the man had been inside the building for several minutes and was exposed to sulfuryl fluoride, colorless and odorless insecticide that is used to kill termites and other pests.

Officials will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of his death. Because police were present before he died, Fremont detectives and the Alameda County district attorney's office will also be investigating the circumstances leading up to the death.

In 2011, a man was found dead in a San Jose home tented for fumigation.
