Firefighters in Oakland Tuesday night knocked down a fast moving one-alarm fire that damaged an office building along the estuary.

The Portobello Complex includes professional offices and condos. It is located just south of Jack London Square next door to the KTVU Fox 2 studios.

At around 7:15 p.m., flames were seen leaping into the sky as the fire erupted in the office space.

Video shot by a camera on the roof of the KTVU studios show smoke pouring from the building. Firefighters managed to contain it to only six units, but said it spread quickly.

This building didn't have stops in between floors so it ran up the length of the building up to the attic space, said Oakland Fire Battalion Chief Zoraida Diaz.

Some worried about their work space, while people living next door at a condo complex knew that at any moment the fire could have quickly spread to their units.

I was kind of concerned because it was right next to me, said resident Kendall Asport. Our complex is right next door. I was a little worried.

Crews were able to contain the fire relative quickly. There were no injuries, but the building sustained a lot of damage.

The lower units we also had to open up the ceiling and walls to see if there was fire in those areas, explained Diaz.
