USPS investigating package explosion in Alameda

An investigation is underway in Alameda after a package exploded at a home, where a police officer possibly lives.

Authorities will not say exactly where the explosion happened, but neighbors tell us it is near Lilac Street and Oleander Avenue on Bay Farm Island of Alameda.

The Postal Service inspector confirms the package was delivered to the home by the USPS.

The Postal Inspection Service tells KTVU it is staying tight-lipped about the incident during the investigation.

The contents of the package have been shipped to Washington for further analysis.

Alameda Police Department, Alameda County Sheriff's Department, the ATF, and postal inspectors have all responded to the incident.
