Vallejo police investigating report officer used racial epithet

The Vallejo Police Department has opened an internal affairs investigation to determine whether an officer used a racial epithet during an encounter with a citizen Saturday.

On Saturday around 4 p.m., two officers with the police department conducted a traffic stop on potential suspects related to a car jacking from a nearby jurisdiction, according to police.

Police said a resident in the area recorded the encounter with his mobile phone and reported one of the officers used a racial epithet during the initial contact with the potential suspects.

The officer involved in the incident has been identified and has been placed on leave pending the completion of an investigation into the incident, police said.
