San Jose police are searching for the driver who struck a 12-year-old girl while she was in a crosswalk on Monday.

Surveillance video shows the Toyota Camry traveling northbound on N. 17th Street when it struck the girl as she crossed over E. Julian Street. She was thrown on to the car's hood and landed in the street.

"The impact was pretty harsh. She flew up in the air. She hit on top of the hood and flew off," said Danny Rey who witnessed the accident.

The driver fled northbound on N. 17th Street. Another vehicle stopped to assist the girl. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"She was talking, moving around, like pain in her leg or something. I didn't hear a car no brake or anything," said neighbor Johnny Carmona.

The suspect vehicle was described as a 1998 to early 2000 brown four-door Toyota Camry. The driver was described 40 to 50 years-old with brown hair.
