Video shows endangered mother and baby gorilla in their natural habitat

The Wildlife Conservation Society released video of an endangered mother gorilla and her baby in their natural habitat.

The Western Lowland Gorilla, Mekome, and her offspring live in the rainforest of Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park in the Republic of the Congo.

Conservationists believe the gorilla was barely a week old when the video was taken.

A female gorilla generally gives birth to one infant about every four years. This baby is Mekome's fifth. So far, only one of Mekom'e children has made it to adulthood. Baby gorillas fall victim to predators, disease, habitat loss and poaching.

Western Lowland Gorillas are critically endangered. Scientists believe only about 100,000 still live in the wild.
