Watsonville police arrest man who allegedly solicited sex from teen via text

A 30-year-old Watsonville man was arrested this week on suspicion of attempting to contact a minor to commit a sex crime, according to Watsonville police.

Police said the suspect, Christian Bonilla, allegedly got the 15-year-old victim's phone number from a membership application at a local health club and contacted her via text message around April 11.

The victim reported the incident to police, who then had detectives continue to text Bonilla while posing as the victim.

Police said they arranged a meeting with Bonilla, under the guise of him meeting the victim, at a convenience store parking lot on Airport Boulevard on Thursday afternoon, where he was taken into custody.

In addition to being arrested on suspicion of attempted lewd or lascivious act with a minor and annoying/molesting a minor, Bonilla was also driving on a suspended license. His car was impounded, according to police.

Anyone with additional information about the case is asked to call Watsonville police Det. Rudy Lopez at (831) 768-3357.
