Winter not going away quietly; it's going to be a rainy, cold first day of spring

Spring begins at 2:59 p.m. on Wednesday, but don't expect sunshine to bring in the new season.

KTVU meteorologist Steve Paulson says winter is not going to go away quietly. The last few hours of the "astronomical winter: will be blustery with cooler temps.

Showers will make for a wet early-morning commute as showers will push inland across the Bay Area, the National Weather Service said.

Thursday looks mostly sunny and the rain will reappear on Friday.
