An Umpqua Community College student described the moment she heard gunshots and screaming coming from an adjacent classroom on Thursday morning.

Kendra Gordon told Fox News that she initially thought the gunshots were firecrackers.

Gordon said one of her classmates went to investigate and was shot twice, once in the arm and once in the stomach.

When that student ran back into the classroom, Gordon said they locked the door,  turned off the lights and prayed until police arrived.

At least  people were killed and 7 others were injured.

The 20-year-old gunman was killed in a shootout with police.
