Woman dies in motorcycle, big-rig truck collision near Morgan Hill

MORGAN HILL, Calif. (BCN) - A 30-year-old woman was killed this afternoon on Highway 101 in unincorporated Santa Clara County near Morgan Hill when the motorcycle the woman was driving slid under the wheels of a big-rig trailer, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Vanessa Rodriguez of Sunnyvale was driving a Honda motorcycle south on 101 north of Cochrane Road about 2:20 p.m. today when, while "lane-splitting" between traffic lanes, she struck the rear of a big-rig driven by Pedro Vargas, 62, of Bloomington, near San Bernardino.
The CHP said Rodriguez and the motorcycle became entangled in the rear axles if the trailer, and were dragged about 300 feet by the truck, moving at about 15 mph.
It took the big rig 300 feet to stop, the CHP said.
Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Vargas, driving a 2015 Freightliner big rig, was not injured.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation; neither alcohol nor drugs is believed to be a factor, the CHP said.
