Woman falls and gets hit by own car

PETALUMA, Calif. (KTVU) -- An 82-year-old woman was seriously injured Friday when she fell from her vehicle, and it then ran her over, said Petaluma Police.

Officers responded at 11:22 p.m., about a woman lying in the roadway on Ely Boulevard South, north of Frates Road.

The woman, a Petaluma resident, had suffered major trauma to her left leg, police said.

Her vehicle, a 2000 Honda CRV, had stopped on a grassy area on the west side of Ely Boulevard South, about 50 feet north of where the injured woman was located.

Investigators determined that the woman had stopped her vehicle near the intersection of Ely Boulevard South and Frates Road, for some unknown reason.

When she stepped out of the vehicle,  she either fell or got pulled under the driver's side front tire, police said.

She was transported to the hospital due to the severe leg injury.
