Woman hit by vehicle at Hwy. 24 and Pleasant Hill Road

A female pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on eastbound state Highway 24 in Lafayette Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was reported at 11:05 a.m. on eastbound Highway 24 near the on-ramp from Pleasant Hill Road.

A white Ford E-150 van hit the pedestrian in one of the right lanes of the highway and she was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP Officer Brandon Correia said. She has not yet been identified.

The van's driver was uninjured and cooperated with investigators, Correia said.

The collision prompted the closure of the three right lanes of the highway for nearly two hours. The lanes reopened by 1 p.m., Correia said.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information about it is encouraged to call the CHP's Contra Costa office at (925) 646-4980.
