WOMAN STABBED IN SANTA CLARA PARK: Police are seeking a man who stabbed and robbed a woman at a Santa Clara park.

The incident happened at Central Park at Kiely Boulevard and Benton Street about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday.

A man approached the woman in the park near the pond and stabbed her numerous times with a sharp instrument before stealing her wallet and cell phone, said Santa Clara police Lt. Kurt Clarke. The attacker then fled on foot.

The woman was taken to a hospital with wounds that weren't life-threatening.

Police released a sketch of the assailant, who is described as a Latino man in his 20s, 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 7 inches tall with a thin build, with a medium brown complexion and no accent. He had wavy shoulder-length dark brown hair, sunken cheeks and obvious cheek bones.

He had on a light-colored, beige hooded sweatshirt (beach style with an obvious heavy thread and weave pattern and possibly a front pocket). He was also wearing dark grey or black “shiny” pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call Santa Clara police Detective Sergeant Derek Rush at (408) 615-4814.

MACHETE ATTACKER GETS PRISON: A man who attacked his girlfriend with a machete in Healdsburg pleaded no contest today to felony charges.

Robert Lee Osuna-Gongora, 46, Healdsburg assaulted his girlfriend at a storage unit in the city. During an argument, he strangled her, leaving red marks on her neck, said Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch.

Osuna-Gongora then used a machete to cut her right arm, authorities said.

The woman, whose name was withheld, didn't call police but was taken to the hospital by her father, who did call law enforcement. During the trial, the victim refused to testify.

"This was a brutal act committed by the defendant that deserves a lengthy term in prison," Ravitch said. "We will continue to aggressively prosecute those who commit violent acts upon others."

Osuna-Gongora is to be sentenced on March 21.

FIVE TEENS HELD IN ROBBERY SPREE: Three teenage girls and two boys have been arrested by Oakland police in a spree of strong-arm robberies, authorities said.

The youths, whose names were withheld because of their ages, have all been charged by Alameda County prosecutors with strong-arm robbery, attempted robbery and vehicle theft.

The suspects were implicated in a string of hold-ups in Oakland and Piedmont. Police did not provide details of the crimes.
