Wrong-way driver killed in Walnut Creek after crashing into center divide: CHP
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - A wrong-way driver was killed Monday morning on Interstate Highway 680 in Walnut Creek after striking a center divide.
The driver, a 32-year-old woman from Oakland, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash blocked blocked multiple lanes in both directions for about two hours, according to California Highway Patrol Sgt. Brian Samms.
The accident occurred just north of Livorna Road around 1:45 a.m.
Before the crash, the CHP said the driver was reported driving northbound in the
southbound lanes of the freeway,
She was pronounced dead at the scene. All lanes reopened about 4 a.m.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in this collision but it is still under investigation.
