Simone Manuel returns to Houston after Olympic gold medal win
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Swimmer Simone Manuel arrives on U.S. soil to George Bush Intercontinental Airport as a history-making athlete. Manuel, 20, who won the Olympic gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle event, was the first African American woman to accomplish that feat.
During her visit to the airport, she received a call to her cell phone from the Madd Hatta Morning Show crew at Houston radio station 97.9 The Box. After her airport interview with FOX 26 News reporter Nate Griffin and others, Manuel stopped for Shipley Donuts, a Houston-area favorite.
Manuel attends Stanford University.
