Our active weather stretch continues.  A cold system will move into the Bay Area Wednesday evening - early Thursday.  There is the chance of thunderstorms.  Winds will also be factor.  Gusts could approach 40 mph.  With the cold air in place, snow levels will remain quite low (close to 2000 feet). The showers should taper Thursday afternoon.  Plan on some very cold temperatures to start off your Friday morning (20s and 30s).

Crews found the bodies of eight backcountry skiers near California’s Lake Tahoe and were searching for one more after they were caught in an avalanche, the nation’s deadliest in nearly half a century, authorities said Wednesday.

The Nevada County Sheriff said Wednesday that there are 6 survivors, 8 dead, 1 missing after the backcountry ski group got trapped an avalanche Tuesday as they were coming back from a three-day trip to Frog Lake Huts in the Sierra. The trip was lead by four guides with Blackbird Mountain Guides based out of Truckee. Recovery efforts will resume once conditions are safe for rescuers. The Sheriff said one victim is the spouse of one member of the rescue team.
