Scientists discover a large, hidden stash of carbon under the California coast seafloor
A new study by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration found a large stash of carbon sitting just under the seafloor off of the coast of Northern California. The study found the top layers of the seafloor hold about 9 million metric tons of would-be greenhouse gases. Researchers say this data highlights the importance of protecting these carbon reservoirs, to make sure they remain undisturbed. KTVU's Alex Savidge speaks with Doug George, NOAA Ocean Scientist about how studying this vast stash of carbon has important implications for efforts to address climate change.
